The man suspected of being responsible for the largest data leak in Brazil was arrested this Friday, March 19th, in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, during Operation Deepwater, of the Federal Police (PF). The action investigates the obtaining, disclosure and commercialization of data of Brazilians, including several authorities.
The investigations found that, last January, through the Internet, confidential data of individuals and companies – such as the Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF) and the Corporate Taxpayer Registry (CNPJ), full names and addresses – were illicitly made available.
Vanda the God’s real name is reportedly Marcos Roberto Correia da Silva, he is 24 years old, and that he is allegedly responsible for disseminating information on 223 million Brazilians. “JustBR,” who is the person who listed the data on RaidForums, seems to be a second individual.
The second hacker, Yuri Batista Novaes, known as "JustBR", was arrested in flagrante delicto in Petrolina (PE) for illegal possession of a weapon and, at his house, the Federal Police seized 4 terabytes of data, which will now be investigated. According to the investigation, Novaes participated in obtaining and disseminating information from 223 million Brazilians.
